Dr. Jochims is board certified in sleep medicine. He works with the team of sleep specialists (pulmonologist, ENT surgeon, and psychologists) at the state-of-the-art ProHealth Care Sleep Center, conveniently located in Delafield. Dr. Jochims reads and interprets sleep studies for evaluation of sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, excessive snoring, narcolepsy, insomnia, shift work disorder and restless leg syndrome. A sleep study, in the simplest terms, is a test that records what happens when you sleep. The study is done to help figure out what's creating the problems you're experiencing.
In-Home sleep testing is available through the use of a portable computer monitoring device that measures heart rate, oxygen saturation and analyzes breathing patterns throughout the night. Patient wears the monitoring device for 1-2 nights.
In-lab sleep testing is performed at the state-of-the-art ProHealth Care Sleep Lab Center, conveniently located in Delafield.
A Polysomnogram is an overnight sleep study used to test for sleep apnea, narcolepsy, periodic limb movements and many other sleep disorders. The test monitors heart rhythm, brain waves, movements, oxygen levels and breathing patterns during sleep. A sleep technician records all of this data and it's then analyzed by Dr. Jochims.
An MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test) typically follows a Polysomnogram. It's a daytime sleep study that's used to diagnose narcolepsy (falling asleep suddenly during alert activities) and idiopathic hypersomnia (extreme sleepiness). Patients taking this test lay down to nap every two hours and a sleep technician monitors how deeply and quickly they fall asleep. A sleep technician records all of this data and it's then analyzed by Dr. Jochims.
After testing is completed, Dr. Jochims will discuss your options and create a plan of action, involving your referring physician, as necessary. Next steps may include additional testing or lab work, treatments or procedures, medication or referral to other specialists.
